Music Together^® is an innovative program for children newborn through age five and their parents or caregivers. East Bay Music Together classes meet for 45 minutes each week for ten (Fall), ten (Winter and Spring), or six (Summer), weeks. Twelve children and their parents or caregivers experience new songs, chants, movement activities, and instrumental jam sessions led by Danni Cauley, a licensed Music Together teacher skilled in music and early childhood education. Danni helps adults understand how to participate, relax, and enjoy the activities with their children. Regardless of their musical background, parents learn many ways to make music and move with their children.

Nine non-sequential song collections, plus three special summer collection compilations, are rotated over a three year period, providing a wealth of music in a variety of meters, tonalities, and cultural styles.

Original songs, chants, and instrument play-alongs by the program co-authors make a collection especially unique. These research-based, artistically conceived professional recordings will become a cherished part of your child's early music collection!


Class Descriptions:

Newborn through Kindergarten

Child development researchers recommend mixed-age groupings because they foster natural, family-style learning. Younger children enjoy watching and imitating older ones; older children learn by leading younger ones; and adults are happy because the children in the family can go to class together. Each child participates at his or her own level in singing, moving, chanting, listening, watching, and exploring musical instruments. The class provides a variety of adult-child activities that are fun and offer new ways to play musically at home. Any caregivers, singly or together, can bring the children-parents, grandparents, nanny. The whole family is welcome for this essential family music experience.


Newborn to 10 months

Every child's music development benefits from early exposure to music and movement. Because the early months are so important, Music Together offers two options for babies. Babies eleven months and younger at the time of registration may attend a Mixed-Age class, whether registered on their own or attending free with an older sibling. Babies may also be registered for the special "Babies Class". The music activities are specially designed for parents who want to learn as much as possible about music development in infants. Meet other parents of newborns and learn some fascinating music activities you can recreate at home with your baby.

Three to Fives

Although older children thrive in a mixed-age environment, here is another option for your family. (Discuss your child's readiness for this class with the school directors.) Attend with your child for the same outstanding music with some different kinds of activities - rhythm improvisations, independent singing, dance improvisation, and dramatic play. Teachers work with individual skill levels and interest.

Kindergarten-First Grade

East Bay Music Together is excited to offer a musical adventure class a new 45-minute class geared to the interests and social nature of children ages 5-7. (To attend the Musical Adventure class, your child must be 5 years of age by the start of the semester you wish to attend.) Game songs, folk dances, jam sessions, dramatic play, and more structured work in rhythm and tonality will be included.
